Il COVID-19 ha messo in evidenza l’interdipendenza esistente tra uomo e natura, e l’impatto che l’uomo ha sul pianeta nel deviarne il corso dei fenomeni naturali ed i suoi equilibri.

Una mala gestione delle risorse del pianeta ci danneggia: basti pensare all’inquinamento, che causa migliaia di morti l’anno, lo sviluppo di malattie ed epidemie trasmissibili all’uomo che derivano, ed esempio, dall’alterazione della biodiversità, il sovra sfruttamento dei terreni, che genererà importantissime crisi alimentari.

Con fridays for the future il fenomeno dei cambiamenti climatici è diventato un tema mondiale. Ma bisogna agire subito per invertire il cambio climatico in atto. Diversamente, potrebbe essere troppo tardi.

E’ possibile invertire questa corsa distruttiva?
.
Siamo parte dell’Europa. Il greendeal, la strategia Farm to Fork, le nuove politiche PAC, sono solo alcune delle iniziative della Comunità Europea per uno sviluppo “verde”, per una società dove la sostenibilità non è solo garanzia di sicurezza e salute ma anche di sviluppo economico. Cambiare, dunque, è possibile, anzi doveroso, ma ciò richiede atteggiamento radicalmente diverso nei confronti dell’ ambiente, da parte delle istituzioni, dei cittadini, e, anche, delle Università.

Anche l'Università Vanvitelli è parte attiva in tale sfida. Nel Dipartimento di Scienze e Tecnologie Ambientali Biologiche e Farmaceutiche i nostri ricercatori lavorano per una gestione sostenibile del pianeta. Abbiamo progetti attivi, ad esempio, nella salvaguardia e gestione delle foreste, sperimentiamo tecniche innovative per l’ agricoltura sostenibile, studiamo innovazioni per ridurre l’ effetto serra, testiamo tecnologie per la depurazione di acqua e aria. E molto altro ancora.

Il nostro impegno è costante, e lavoriamo ogni giorno per far sì che l’approccio interdisciplinare e le conoscenze che maturiamo nei nostri laboratori vengano trasmessi agli studenti dei nostri corsi di laurea. I professionisti del futuro, che ci aiuteranno a gestire il cambiamento.

The COVID-19 emergency highlighted the mutual relation existing between man and nature, and the impact that man has in deviating the course of natural phenomena and on the planet's equilibrium.

Inadequate management of the planet's resources prejudices us: just think of pollution, which causes thousands of deaths a year, of the development of diseases and epidemics transmittable to humans deriving, for example, from the alteration of biodiversity and to the over-exploitation of land, which will generate very important food crises.

With fridays for the future climate change has become a global topic. Action must be taken immediately to reverse the ongoing climate change. Otherwise, it may be too late.
It is possible to reverse this destructive run?
.
We are part of Europe. The Greendeal, the Farm to Fork strategy, the new Common Farm policies, are just some of the European Community initiatives for a “green” development, for a society where sustainability is not only a guarantee of safety and health but also of economicalprogress. Therefore, change is not only possible but necessary. This mutation requires a radically different attitude towards the environment, from institutions, citizens, and, also, universities.

The Vanvitelli University is also an active part in this challenge. In the Department of Environmental, Biological and Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technologies our researchers work for planet sustainability. We are working on projects, for example, for the protection and management of forests, we are experimenting innovative techniques for sustainable agriculture, we are studying innovations to reduce the e green house effect, we are testing technologies for water and air purification. And much more.

Our commitment is constant, we work every day to ensure that the interdisciplinary approach and the knowledge that we develop in our laboratories are transmitted to our students. The experts of the future, who will help us deal with change.
